The project blends period-appropriate craftsmanship with modern comfort—featuring custom carpentry, integrated storage, a full bathroom with copper finishes, high-performance insulation, and luxury Farrow & Ball paints and wallpaper. Completed with sensitivity to historic character, the remodel reflects both elevated design and respect for the home’s architectural heritage.
Located in the heart of Roxbury’s Historic District, this attic remodel presented a unique opportunity: convert an unfinished upper level into functional living space while honoring the character of a centuries-old home. From the structural framework to the smallest trim detail, every element of the project was crafted to align with the home’s traditional New England architecture.
The new space features extensive custom carpentry—each piece thoughtfully designed to maximize the sloped-roof geometry of the attic. Built-in beds with deep storage drawers, custom closets, shiplap wall paneling, and handcrafted shelving create a charming, efficient layout that feels both tailored and timeless. Rustic exposed beams were preserved and integrated, maintaining the warm, historic spirit of the property.
To ensure comfort year-round, the entire attic was insulated using high R-value spray foam, dramatically improving energy performance without compromising headroom or the existing structure. The finished surfaces were completed with Farrow & Ball estate-grade paint and wallpaper, providing a rich, historically sympathetic palette and an unmistakably refined finish.
The full bathroom continues the balance of old-world craftsmanship and modern design. Beadboard wainscoting, a custom vanity, and hand-selected flooring are paired with exquisite high-end copper fixtures, giving the space a luxurious yet cottage-authentic feel. Thoughtful placement of built-ins and access doors ensures that every inch of the sloped attic remains functional.
This project extends beyond design and construction—it reflects stewardship of a historic property. The home is recognized by the Roxbury Historic District Commission and holds a Certificate of Merit for National Preservation Week (2007), emphasizing its cultural significance. Our remodel preserves that legacy while giving the family a warm, imaginative new living area shaped for modern life.
The result is a stunning blend of artistry, craftsmanship, historical respect, and functional comfort—a true showcase of what thoughtful renovation can achieve in a protected historic home.
