|
After a fallen tree caused significant roof damage, this Candlewood Lake home presented an opportunity to reimagine—not just repair—the space. Rather than restoring the home to its previous condition, the homeowner chose to expand upward and modernize the entire residence.

What began as storm damage quickly evolved into a transformative project. After the roof was compromised by a fallen tree, we worked closely with the homeowner to evaluate long-term solutions rather than short-term fixes.
This led to the decision to construct a full second-floor addition above the damaged portion of the home, allowing the residence to grow both in square footage and livability while maintaining its original character within the private Candlewood Lake community.
The new second floor introduced two spacious bedrooms and three full bathrooms, dramatically improving the home’s layout and functionality. Structural engineering, framing, and insulation were carefully coordinated to ensure the addition integrated cleanly with the existing structure below.
High-efficiency spray foam insulation was installed throughout the new construction, improving energy performance and year-round comfort while meeting modern building standards.
Beyond the addition, the interior of the home underwent a complete renovation. All existing hardwood floors were carefully refinished to restore their natural beauty and ensure consistency throughout the expanded living space.
Bathrooms were fully rebuilt with updated layouts, modern finishes, and radiant heated flooring, delivering both luxury and everyday comfort. Each space was designed to feel cohesive, timeless, and appropriate for a lakefront setting.
A key priority was ensuring the new construction blended seamlessly with the existing home. Exterior materials, siding profiles, rooflines, and trim details were carefully matched so the addition feels original—not added on.
From the street and the lake, the home now presents as a unified structure, preserving the character of the neighborhood while benefiting from modern construction techniques.
To complete the transformation, the rear patio was redesigned to better connect the home to its lakefront surroundings. The updated outdoor space enhances both usability and flow, creating a natural extension of the interior living areas and maximizing enjoyment of the property’s setting.
The result is a thoughtfully designed second-floor addition paired with a comprehensive interior and exterior remodel, seamlessly blending new construction with the existing lakefront home while significantly increasing comfort, functionality, and long-term value.
