Building on Ledge in a Constrained Hillside Lot
From the outset, the site presented significant challenges. The small footprint and extensive ledge required mechanical rock hammering to properly seat the foundation and create usable building platforms. Excavation was carefully sequenced to protect neighboring properties while achieving the elevations necessary for both structural integrity and lake views. Every inch of the lot was thoughtfully utilized, transforming what initially seemed like a limitation into an opportunity for a dramatic, elevated design.
Structural Design & Foundation Execution
With the home built directly into the hillside, structural coordination was critical. Reinforced foundations and framing systems were engineered to anchor the house securely into the terrain while allowing the architecture to step naturally with the slope. The design balances strength and efficiency, supporting open interior spaces, large window openings, and the elevated deck structure above the front garage—all while meeting modern building standards for hillside construction.
Modern Architecture & Lake-Focused Views
The home’s contemporary design is defined by clean rooflines, bold geometry, and expansive black-framed windows that capture unobstructed views of Candlewood Lake. Large sliding glass doors blur the line between indoor and outdoor living, filling the home with natural light throughout the day. Every primary living space was intentionally oriented toward the water, ensuring the lake remains a constant visual presence from within the home.
Elevated Outdoor Living
A defining feature of the residence is the large composite deck positioned above the front garage. Designed as an extension of the main living space, the deck provides a commanding vantage point over the lake and surrounding landscape. A sleek cable railing system preserves sightlines while reinforcing the home’s modern aesthetic. Built for durability and low maintenance, the deck offers an ideal setting for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying sunset views over Candlewood Lake.
Modern Interiors & Refined Finishes
Inside, the home continues its contemporary expression through crisp trim details, clean transitions, and high-end material selections. Marble tile accents, modern cabinetry, and carefully curated finishes elevate the interiors while maintaining a warm, livable atmosphere. The design prioritizes simplicity and balance—allowing textures, light, and views to take center stage without unnecessary ornamentation.
